Jennifer Marks is a PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies (IHS) Program at Johns Hopkins University working between the Classics and Near Eastern Studies Departments. Her research focus is craft specialization in the Aegean Bronze Age, particularly that of Minoan and Mycenaean textile weaving. Jennifer’s work aims to get at the lived experiences of people, particularly women and migrants, behind the craft. Similar to the work of Saidiya Hartman and Tiya Miles, who weave together narratives using an archive of objects, Jennifer examines material culture, the archaeological record, and textual evidence to help aid in the reconstruction of past lives and activities.
